Gary Pendleton believes in service — to country, community, and family.
Elected Chairman of the Wake County Board of Commissioners in 1994, Gary helped guide the county through a period of remarkable economic growth. Among the most impactful decisions made during that time was the transformation of the county hospital into a private not-for-profit — a visionary step that allowed WakeMed Health and Hospitals to become one of the region’s leading medical centers. This shift also safeguarded access to essential healthcare services for low-income and underserved residents of Raleigh.
A retired Brigadier General and former tank commander in the U.S. Army Reserves, Gary has remained active in military, civic, and community life throughout adulthood. Leadership roles have included appointments to the State Economic Development Board, the State Board of Community Colleges, and the State Banking Commission. Service in the North Carolina House of Representatives (District 49, 2015–2017) reflects a continued commitment to public life.
Much of Gary’s personal mission has focused on supporting individuals in crisis — especially those navigating mental illness, addiction, or poverty. As a founding board member of The Healing Place of Wake County and a long-time volunteer with organizations focused on mental health and recovery, Gary has championed local, community-based support systems. For more than 24 years, spiritual support has also been offered through leading a prayer ministry at the Wake County Jail.
His service has been recognized through multiple honors, including receiving The Order of the Long Leaf Pine — North Carolina’s highest civilian award — and serving as past president of the Occoneechee Council of the Boy Scouts of America.
Now serving as Director of Insurance at Pendleton Financial, Gary brings decades of leadership and insight to insurance strategy and planning, helping clients navigate life’s risks with care and clarity.
